Rough Draft 4

Pattern-based:
I repeated the eye and added various brushes to create a texture. I also explored more with layer mask, blending tools, and colors. The vertical paint brush pattern in the center is a reflection of the hair texture in the original image. Therefore, a section of those vertical brushes are a faded image of Twiggy's face and hair. I did this to connect the use of brushes and image. My goal for this image is that you do not see the original photograph when you glance but as you study, you discover the manipulation and repeated elements that may be hidden.

Rough Draft 2 & 3

Rough Draft 1

First attempt at destroying the icon was a combination of the scanogram and photograph as well as a colorized mask. I like the way this image looks, however, I need to explore much further in order to stray away from the original photo.

Destroy the Icon Project

Icon:  Twiggy

English supermodel Lesley Hornby is nicknamed Twiggy due to her slim figure and childhood nickname Twigs. She was most popular in her teenage years modeling in London in the 1960's. She became iconic due to her androgynous looks, large eyes, long eyelashes, thin built and short hair. She is still well know today and has appeared as a guest judge in the television show America's Next Top Model.

I plan to manipulate this photograph by Melvin Sokolsky in Photoshop in order to use it without requesting permission to use his work. At the end of the process I will have four developed pieces. One will incorporates the scanogram I created and one will be patterned based, with two more of my experimentation.

Fantasy Appliance Final

I lost my flash drive and so I had to redraw everything in Illustrator, this is my final result:

I added clouds in the background that mimic the style I created with the horse-white highlights. These clouds help integrate the gun into the scene. I also worked on adding in gradations-in the path and in the tail. I added a patterned gray to the bottom of the composition to create a texture indicating grass. In order to take the focus off of the text I created from the power cord, I skewed it to appear more as a shadow on the ground. I made other variations that I believe improved my design.

Suggestions after in progress critique

- change the image of the horse in order to see the profile of the horse head and better separation of the legs.
- Refine the writing of "gun"
-make horse hooves into the glue guns and create a western environment. (gun cord reflects a lasso).
